Imagine being 85 years old, homebound, and living alone — and suddenly, the one hot, nutritious meal you count on each day is gone.
This is the heartbreaking reality that many of Aiken County’s most vulnerable seniors are about to face — again.
For the second time in six months, Aiken Senior Life Services may be forced to pause delivery of Meals on Wheels from August 18 through September 30, due to an ongoing disparity in government funding. That means for six long weeks, seniors who depend on these meals — and the critical wellness checks that come with them — will be left to fend for themselves.
No meals. No visits. No peace of mind.
Let’s be clear: this is through no fault of theirs. Our seniors have worked hard, raised families, served their communities, and now — in the autumn of their lives — they deserve to be cared for, not cast aside.
This is unacceptable, and we refuse to stand by and let it happen.
